Low Fidelity Simulators (Task Trainers)
Low fidelity Simulators, also called Task Trainers, provide the learner the opportunity to learn, practice and become comfortable with specific clinical skills in the safety of the simulated environment prior to encountering patients in the clinical setting. Third-year clerkships in the College of Medicine utilize the Simulation Center to provide opportunities to teach the basic skills required for a particular rotation in a specific specialty, such as pediatrics, internal medicine, psychiatry, surgery and family medicine.

SP's are fully trained prior to encounters with learners to ensure they are able to accurately and completely present a patient's story. In addition standardized patients are trained to assess a learner's ability using case specific checklists and also provide either written or verbal feedback based on set criteria. The use of standardized patient encounters provides a safe environment for learners as they master clinical skills.
