Professional Summary

As a social developmental psychologist, my major area of research is adolescent relationships. Current research projects include studying changes in mother-child, father-child, friend, and romantic relationships during adolescence and how these changes are linked to adjustment. Currently most of my projects examine how the effects of certain risk factors (i.e., childhood sexual abuse, victimization, obesity, and genes that heighten the probability for depression) are reduced through various aspects of relationships. For instance, I am interested in how friendships might buffer the link between negative peer experiences and later depression in obese adolescents, a group that is a common target of peer harassment.
