Professional Summary
Personal Statement
One of my most memorable experiences on my rotations was of an elderly woman, Ms. B, who came in for an acute bout of diverticulitis. Despite her immense pain, bonding over shared stories of our grandmothers allowed Ms. B to become more present, eventually recounting her own health history. My patient became my friend – she trusted me, and in that trust, I could anticipate her needs before she vocalized them. Walking away from Ms. B that day, I realized the value in my ability to quickly connect with people – medicine is far more than treating one’s physical symptoms. In the discipline of Internal Medicine, it’s just as much about creating a bond with our patients as it is about rallying a team together that can care for all aspects of a patient at their most vulnerable state.
Why I Chose Cincinnati
On interview day with the University of Cincinnati, I was impressed with the faculty’s emphasis on resident education and patient centered care. In addition, when I toured the UC Medical Center, the faculty and residents fostered a positive atmosphere that provided me comfort in knowing that I would be supported through my training.
