Professional Summary
Personal Statement
I will never forget the first time I got a clear view of the fundus with an indirect ophthalmoscope. After admiring its elegant structures, I looked into the opposite eye and was stunned to see yellow subretinal exudation within the macula. This young patient had Coats Disease. For two years, my attending had been working to stabilize disease progression with cryotherapy and laser therapy. As I read through all the operative and clinic notes, I appreciated the level of detail and thought devoted to developing the treatment plan. This experience solidified my interest in ophthalmology. I am fascinated by the pathology and the advanced instrumentation, I am thrilled for the opportunity to become the diagnostician and the surgeon, and I feel privileged to develop long-term patient relationships.
Why I Chose Cincinnati
I chose Cincinnati because it offered everything I was looking for in a residency program. I wanted a diverse experience while being surrounded by passionate and highly capable physician leaders. I walked away from the Ophthalmology interview day smiling because I knew Cincinnati was special. The multiple training sites including the VA, Children’s hospital, and private practice clinics allow me to interact with diverse patients and pathology. The joint internship also provided the flexibility to become a competent doctor while learning the fundamentals of Ophthalmology. Finally, as a Bengals fan, there is no better time to be in town as they enter an exciting time in franchise history!
