Professional Summary
I am a biologist by training with more than 30 years of research experience in genetics, cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, and mouse models. I have a long-standing interest in and commitment to the study of pulmonary Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) and Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC). I received my bachelor's and doctorate from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and my postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Dr. Elizabeth P. Henske, where we made seminal discoveries on the genetics, cell biology, and signaling pathways of LAM.
Resarch
My research aims to identify drugs that target TSC1/TSC2-deficient cells and preferentially kill them, and to explore the underlying mechanisms leading to LAM. The main focus of my research is the interaction and regulation of the PI3K/mTOR pathway with other signaling pathways that affect cell growth, proliferation, and differentiation (PLK1, Wnt/beta-catenin, TGFbeta/BMP).
Teaching
I am a teaching faculty for the Department of Medical Education for Biomedical Sciences Lab Techniques (MEDS 2030C).
