Professional Summary
A member of United Scenic Artists, Charlie Calvert has designed scenery professionally for many theatre companies in New York City and across the country, including multiple projects at the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, the Warehouse Theatre and Olney Theatre Center. He also spent years working in New York City as an Assistant Scenic Designer for Allen Moyer, Paul Steinberg, Andrew Lieberman, Loy Arcenas and Peter Dean Beck on Broadway, Off-Broadway, Regional and international theatre and opera productions.
Calvert served as a USITT Commissioner for Scene Design and Technology and the Chair of Design, Technology and Management for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (Region IV). He is also a member of the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC), the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) and the International Organization of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians (OISTAT).
Calvert’s students have enjoyed successful internships at Berkshire Theatre Festival, Glimmerglass Opera, Sante Fe Opera, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and Williamstown Theatre Festival. In addition, his students have been accepted into MFA programs at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Purdue University, Boston University and University of Tennessee - Knoxville. Additionally, his students have received numerous awards for their design work at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) and SETC.
