Professional Summary
My dissertation shows how combining the principles of radically embodied cognitive science with Pierre Bourdieu's sociological theory of the habitus paves the path toward an adequate method for explaining social agency. As the argument goes, phenomenological interviewing and qualitative data analysis are required to reveal how social structures interact with the agent's interests and abilities, thus rendering behavior meaningful.
My research also explores the implications of an adequate account of social agency on empirical sociological research, as well as its import for longstanding questions within social and Latin American feminist philosophy.
Apart from these questions, I conduct research on the phenomenology of discomforting moods, mainly anxiety and boredom. I am especially interested in examining how such phenomenological work sheds light on Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
My other areas of interest include aesthetics, ethics, the philosophy of psychology, and mind more broadly construed. Additionally, I am interested in the philosophies of religion and pedagogy.
I especially love teaching at UC, and as part of my volunteer work at Clifton Area Neighborhood School (CANS), in the Philosophy for Children program.
In my free time, I enjoy engaging in sports, knitting, watching movies, playing music, and spending quality time with my family, friends, and pets.
