Matteo Ciocca is a Ph.D. student in Classical Philology. He received his B.A. (2023) and M.A. (2025) in Classics from the University of Milan in Italy. His research focuses on the resonance of Greek tragedy in the Greek novel, with particular attention to fragmentary plays. He was a visiting research student at the University of Swansea in Wales for his Master’s dissertation. In his thesis he examined the echoes of three fragmentary Greek tragedies—one from each of the three major Attic tragedians (Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides)—in the ekphraseis of Achilles Tatius’ Leucippe and Clitophon. He has also researched the role of metapoetic metaphors in Sophocles’ fragmentary Tereus.
