Professional Summary
Personal Statement
It was a dark night on the aircraft carrier, USS John C. Stennis, in the South China Sea when my search and rescue crew heard the alarm sound in the ready room. Across the ship the 1 Main Circuit intercom called out "NOW LAUNCH THE SAR ALERT 15 AIRCRAFT". A Sailor had been lost overboard into the Pacific Ocean, and we had fifteen minutes to prepare for take off. My crew and I donned our night vision goggles and flight gear, spun up the helicopter, and were ready to launch for search and rescue. As the pilot and Aircraft Commander, I was responsible for executing the mission and for the safety of my crew. These are the things that drew me to the field of medicine in the first place - to work as a team to better the lives of others. Internal Medicine is a team-oriented job - you need to help empower other providers to help patients, creating an environment where healing can occur. This sets the groundwork to truly partner with the patient.
Why I Chose Cincinnati
As a parent, in addition to considering my medical training, I also considered my family’s needs. Of all the places which I have lived in the country and visited overseas; I cannot think of a better place to raise a family. The city has changed over the years, with much more exciting development downtown and a far more robust restaurant scene than I remembered from growing up nearby as a child. While those are welcome changes to the city, making it an even better place to live, the qualities of great schools and great resources for children (outstanding Zoo, awesome Natural History Museum to name a couple) are still here too.
The fact that those resources are located with University of Cincinnati was ideal. With the medical facilities and resources UCMC has, combined with their model of emphasizing patient centered care while being a leader in medical education, I had found the right home for me to train in as a new physician.
