Professional Summary
Personal Statement
Growing up in government-subsidized housing, I set out to become a physician who could connect with patients from underserved communities. As a person of color from a family that struggled financially, I understood early on that individuals like me often receive inferior medical care and have a general distrust of medicine. My hope is that patients of color will feel safe when they look at me, comforted in seeing a white-coat reflection of themselves. I am committed to providing my patients with compassionate and detail-oriented medical care. I will continue to ask myself what I can do to prevent disease, support patients, and ensure those from underserved communities have access to the care they need.
Why I Chose Cincinnati
What stuck out to me about the University of Cincinnati Internal Medicine Program before I even applied was the personal statement excerpts from current residents that I read on the program website. These excerpts illuminated that this program values residents from diverse backgrounds with a passion for working with patients from underserved communities and improving medicine. I was so excited when I got invited to an interview! I had a wonderful interview day that felt very personalized. I am interested in primary care and community health so the continuity Long Block offers will be perfect for my future career aspirations!
