James Furstein , PhD, DNAP, CRNA, CPNP-AC

Associate Professor-Affiliate

Associate Professor Assistant Program Director, Nurse Anesthesia Program

Professional Summary

I graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 2004 and have worked as a CRNA solely in pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.  Soon after embarking on my career as a CRNA, I refined my academic interests to exploring techniques to better manage pain in the pediatric population.  My efforts to better manage pain among pediatric patients has focused largely on the utilization of ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia in clinical practice.  In addition, I am a Nurse Practitioner and spend time working both on the Acute Pain Service and in the PICU at CCHMC.  I remain actively involved in research focused on pediatric pain and currently serve as the Primary Investigator for several ongoing clinical trials.  Over the years I have remained steadfast in my commitment to sharing the knowledge gained with future generations of clinicians.  I have continually lectured at both the local and national level, I serve on several state and national-level boards, I am an Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati and Assistant Program Director for the Nurse Anesthesia Program, and I am Faculty for the MTSA Acute Surgical Pain Management Fellowship.  My efforts to date have led to multiple honors and awards.
