Dr. Geracioti graduated with a B.A. in Philosophy from Northwestern University and received his M.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed his residency and an internship in Psychiatry at University of California, San Francisco and a Fellowship in Clinical Neuroendocrinology at the National Institute of Mental Health, Bethesda, Maryland. Before coming to Cincinnati, Dr. Geracioti was Director of the Mood Disorders Clinic at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He has served stints as both Chief of Psychiatry at the Cincinnati VAMC and as Chief Clinical Officer in Psychiatry at the University Hospital. Clinically, Dr. Geracioti's foci are anxiety and mood disorders, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and the influence of hormone and neurotransmitter signals on the structure of consciousness. Dr. Geracioti's laboratory and clinical psychoendocrinology research unit are at the VA hospital while his private patients are seen at UC.
Dr. Geracioti received a Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine in 2008.
