Professional Summary
Dr. Delaney Harness' work centers on inter-organizational and collective action networks in sustainability and human rights initiatives. She focuses on transparency and surveillance practices of corporate actors, NGOs, and governments in the face of current social justice issues and emergent regulatory frameworks. Her most recent work interrogates corporate social responsibility (CSR) and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices within the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), and she works to understand the negotiation processes of international sustainability policy in the context of carbon markets.
She has received distinctions for her scholarship from the National Communication Association and International Communication Association. She was awarded the inaugural C-SPAN Graduate Fellowship for her work on norm entrepreneurship in US policy. She has previously worked on grant-funded projects with the Swedish Center for Environmental Research (MISTRA), looking at sustainability in market-based organizations, and on grant-funded research with the Omidyar Network to understand the role of democracy in digital spaces.
Dr. Harness has been published in The Journal of Environmental Planning & Management, New Media and Society, Public Relations Review, and Management Communication Quarterly. She also regularly consults with organizations on developing environmental practices and human rights assessments as part of a broader sustainability management strategy.
