Professional Summary
John Hebbeler is a professional musician, with expertise in music technology; fusing elements of sound, video and web production with computer technology. As an Associate Professor he teaches a range of courses that include studio production, digital audio production, advanced studio production, integrated media production, special topics courses and honors courses. He teaches in the classroom and online and is a Quality Matters certified national peer reviewer for online courses.
Professor Hebbeler creates and develops interactive media compositions that integrate software technology into live audio and visual performances. His work includes the development of computer-based applications for iOS mobile media devices utilizing OSC programming, wireless MIDI and accelerometer technology to fuse composition, production, and performance. His original compositions have been distributed by Spotify, iTunes (US, Japan), Amazon, Rhapsody, eMusic, Zune, Tradebit and Last.fm. Over the past two decades, Professor Hebbeler has worked extensively in music technology for clients that include the World Association of Symphonic Bands, The International Tuba and Euphonium Association, The United States Jazz Ambassadors, The United States Marine Band, The BBC and more. Recently Professor Hebbeler developed an award-winning iPhone application that allows users to control sounds and visuals in media rich environments to reduce stress. Professor Hebbeler has presented and published at the local, national and international level. He has received national and international awards based on his research in music technology and course development for online education.
