Professional Summary

The focus of my research career has been to study the factors that control beneficial vs. detrimental inflammatory responses to infectious pathogens. I have been studying the innate immune response to a noxious challenge and have contributed to significant advancement in understanding mechanisms that control innate immune responses to pathogens. Work carried out during post-doctoral fellowship at UC has revealed the impact of host genetics, bile acid metabolism, and immune mediators, e.g., macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) and interleukin (IL)-1β, on disease severity after Clostridioides difficile infection. As an Assistant Professor in the infectious disease division, I am focused on elucidating intercellular communication that regulates inflammatory responses to gastrointestinal (GI) infections.
