Professional Summary
Personal Statement
At a young age, I found the notion of having ‘Dr.’ attached to my name as unreal as the miraculous way I saw my grandmother go into remission after stage 3 breast cancer treatment or my friend graduate college 6 months after being weaned off the ventilator. My awe for the profession expanded exponentially as I witnessed how multi-faceted the field truly is as a medical student. From assisting in a delivery and suctioning the baby’s mouth in the incubator to rushing down the ER hallway with the on-call team to respond to a Code Blue to holding an 18-year-old boy’s jaundiced hand as he fought against acute liver failure from an acetaminophen overdose – my medical school journey was a wondrous rollercoaster ride filled with its own trials and tribulations. It truly cemented the idea in my mind where I equated my profession to be a gateway for miracles for the masses we treated. Upon reflection, I’ve realized that medicine is too prodigious to be defined as a mere miracle, rather, it is the product of years of hard work, critical thinking and passion.
Why I Chose Cincinnati
I was delighted at the opportunity to interview at UCMC however, I wasn’t sure about what the program was like and so I went into the interview with no expectations. However, an hour into the Meet and Greet session with the current residents and chiefs was enough for me to make up my mind that this is where I see myself for the next 3 years. The level of camaraderie, love and “we’re-all-in-this-together” mindset that all the residents had for each other, not to mention, the overwhelming support that they received from Dr. Warm (whose personality does justice to his name!) made me believe that this is the place which would be perfect for my 3 years of educational training as an empathetic and well-rounded physician. I was over the moon to match here and if I were to go back in time, I would still do it all over again.
