Professional Summary
Personal Statement
“If I had to describe internal medicine in one word, it would be: ‘Why?’” The attending during my gastroenterology rotation stated. As I spent the day in the clinic with him, I quickly learned what he meant. As internists, we must always be asking ourselves why: Why are my patient’s liver enzymes elevated, why is there splenomegaly on CT, why hypokalemia? We are often tasked with caring for patients with multiple, complex diseases requiring thought-provoking deliberations and problem-solving. Throughout the day, as I continued seeing patients with him, I recognized that he is also asking his patients why—why do they think their symptoms are worsening, why are their stress levels increased, why are they hesitant to pursue treatment? The simple act of asking ourselves and our patients why allows us not only to understand disease etiology and pathophysiology but also allows us to understand our patients on a personal level. For me, internal medicine perfectly combines my passions for science and human connection.
Why I Chose Cincinnati
I chose to continue my training at the University of Cincinnati because I knew it was a place where I would be surrounded by kind, compassionate individuals who valued patient-centered care and evidence-based medical education. After my interview day, I felt confident that UC would provide me with all the tools and more to become the physician, leader, and educator I hope to become. Lastly, as a northern Kentucky native, Cincinnati and the tri-state area are my home, and I could not be more honored to care for the community that raised me.
