Professional Summary
Cleopatra E. Kum is an Assistant Professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing. She is also a nurse entrepreneur and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Future of Nursing Scholar. She has a passion for people, teaching, the nursing profession, and our healthcare system as a whole. She is an experienced cardiac nurse, orthopedic nurse, home healthcare nurse, and nurse administrator. She is also a certified American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric CPR, First Aid, and AED instructor. She loves working with patients and their caregivers, to improve health outcomes by providing comprehensive and relevant health education. She is particularly interested in older adults and their caregivers, especially those with cardiovascular diseases and stroke. She has had the opportunity to present her work at conferences at regional, national, and international levels, and she is currently disseminating her work through peer-reviewed publications. At the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing, she serves as an Assistant Professor, conducting collaborative research in family caregiving. She also served as a nurse intervener on a large NIH-funded project, seeking to improve the health and well-being of family caregivers of stroke survivors. She dreams of a world where patients, caregivers, and their communities are encouraged to find their voices and take charge of their own health. She was recently awarded as a Gerontological Society of America's Mentoring and Career Development Technical Assistance Workshop Diversity Fellow. Her work focuses on studying health and the social determinants of health among stroke family caregivers, with a focus on those from minority or disadvantaged backgrounds.
