Professional Summary
Michelle Lessard is a fifth year PhD student in the Philology program. Before coming to University of Cincinnati, she taught Latin in Massachusetts for five years. At Vassar College she majored in Classics and Biology, and she continues to be interested in ancient approaches to various scientific disciplines. She is writing a dissertation on the intersection of statecraft and scholarship in Pliny the Elder's Naturalis Historia. Other recent research projects have focused on experiments described in the Hippocratic Corpus and on Johannes Kepler's science fiction novel, the Somnium.
