Personal Statement
I love gardening. About three years ago, my grandmother passed away abruptly. I deeply loved her and was heartbroken from her loss and the loss of closure as I could not travel back to Kenya for her funeral. So, together with my wife, we decided to honor her by starting our own garden as she was a lifelong farmer. Over the years, what started as a means to honor those whom we love, has turned into a full-blown hobby that I have grown to cherish. From the first break of soil every spring, to tilling, planting, watering, fertilizing, and protecting our plants, we have grown to love the tranquility, peace, and subsequent joy that come with the patient work that bears fruit down the line. There are so many similarities between my love for gardening and my attraction to the practice of internal medicine. It gives us the chance to plant seeds of change in our patients and with patience, time, and perseverance, we can hopefully harvest the fruits of positive change that allows the patients we care for to lead healthier and happier lives.

Why I Chose Cincinnati
I chose Cincinnati due to the caring nature I felt throughout the interview. The identity of the residency as one focused on continual improvement by fostering a comfortable learning environment really pulled me in. My wife and I also love the city and all it has to offer as well as still being close to family.
