Comfort Musiimenta

Comfort Musiimenta is a PhD student in Engineering and Computing Education at the University of Cincinnati. Her research focuses on how engineering students develop professional competence across the university–work boundary, with interests in engineering internships and cooperative education, workplace learning, reflection, professional identity development, and transitions to engineering practice. Her doctoral work builds on her MPhil research in Engineering Education at the University of Cape Town, where she examined alignment between university preparation and the problem-solving demands students encounter during engineering internships.

At the University of Cincinnati, she works with Dr. Cedrick Kwuimy on research examining engineering students’ co-op experiences, learning goals, reflection, and professional skill development. Her broader interests include engineering workforce development, artificial intelligence in engineering teaching and learning, project- and competency-based education, and engineering education in Global South contexts. She has a background in computer engineering and prior industry experience in instrumentation and control engineering.

My research interests center on how engineering students develop professional competence across the university–work boundary. I am particularly interested in engineering internships and cooperative education, workplace learning, reflection, professional skill development, professional identity formation, and transitions from engineering education to professional practice. My MPhil research examined representational alignment between university preparation and the problem-solving demands students encounter during engineering internships.
At the University of Cincinnati, my current research assistantship extends these interests through research on engineering students’ co-op experiences, learning goals, reflection, and professional skill development. My broader interests include engineering workforce development, artificial intelligence in engineering teaching and learning, project- and competency-based education, sustainability in engineering education, and engineering education in Global South contexts.
