Professional Summary
Tom Palaima founded and directed the Program in Aegean Scripts and Prehistory (PASP) 1986-2024. Ca. 98% of its extensive research materials have been donated and moved now to the Blegen Library of UC Classics.
He is a MacArthur fellow for his work with Linear A and Linear B tablets and sealings and the evidence they provide about the societies of mainland Greece and Crete 1850-1170 BCE. For thirty-five years he has taught seminars and written about human responses to experiences of war, violence and social injustice.
For twenty years he was a regular columnist for the Austin American-Statesman and a regular book reviewer for the Times Higher Education.
Over the last decade, he has developed and taught an award-winning course Bob Dylan: History and Imagination. He serves on the editorial advisory boards of The Dylan Review and Studi Micenei ed Egeo-Anatolici and is founding assistant editor of the quarterly MAsT seminars edited by Rachele Pierini.
