Scenic Art I is an undergraduate level class with a focus on scenic painting techniques, and materials that are used in basic scenic painting techniques. Color theory, architectural styles and design terminology are emphasized to support productive communication between disciplines. Scenic Art I is also part of the Graduate Properties MFA Curriculum and requires more in depth exploration of the subject matter through more complicated projects.
THPR 2071C/ 8074 Scenic Art II: Sculptural Arts and Crafts, 2023-2024- LECTURER
Scenic Art II is an undergraduate level class with a focus on materials and techniques that are used to create 3-demensional scenic elements. This course explores additive and subtractive building methods and introduces a variety of textures and advanced scenic painting techniques. Scenic Art I is also part of the Graduate Properties MFA Curriculum and requires more in depth exploration of the subject matter through more complicated projects.
THRP 2072C/8075, Scenic Art III: Painting Styles 2023-2024- LECTURER Scenic Art III is an undergraduate level class with a focus on advanced scenic painting techniques and methods used in reproducing complicated finishes. In this course, we examine a variety of artistic styles throughout history and focus on understanding and recreating the look of those iconic movements. Scenic Art III is also part of the Graduate Properties MFA Curriculum and requires more in depth exploration of the subject matter through more complicated projects.
THRP 51093C/6009, Scenic Art Lab/Crew: 2023-2024- LECTURER
Scenic Art Lab is a hands on class where students learn a variety of paint techniques and are provided opportunities to expand their portfolios by participating in the execution of the scenic finishes for all shows produced during the semester. This is an undergraduate and graduate level class.

A graduate level class with a focus on scenic painting techniques, materials, supplies, budgeting and scheduling. Color theory, architectural styles and design terminology are emphasized to Secrest, J 06/25/2024 2 support productive communication between disciplines. This course is a part of the Technical Production graduate curriculum and is open to undergraduate students.
Dram 191- Scenic painting session, 2017-2022- GUEST LECTURER
An undergraduate course that covers different production roles requires lab hours in the PlayMakers Repertory Scene Shop. Scenic painting is a one week section where they learn a variety of techniques. This section features a sign painting project that the students design and create. During virtual instruction in 2020-2021, students were given a supplies package and completed a color theory project.
North Carolina Theatre Arts Educators (NCTAE) Winter focus 2020- Scenic Painting- MASTER CLASS TEACHER
The winter focus workshop topics included color theory, layout techniques, wood grain, stencil creation, and marble. Participants completed two hands on projects. Participants received 18 contact hours which equaled 1.80 content CEU’s.
