Professional Summary
Anuracti Sharma is a third-year PhD student of ethnomusicology at the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati.
Anuracti’s research lies at the intersection of folk music cultures, creative media industries, music digitization, democratization, and music professionalism under the guidance of ethnomusicologist Stefan Fiol.
Anuracti’s Master’s thesis is anchored upon her fieldwork studying the transmission and monetization of folk music cultures of the Manganiyar and Langa musicians in Barmer, Rajasthan, India. She is interested in understanding how the North Indian regional and local music market segments converge with the mainstream, transnational Bollywood music media industry.
Anuracti has previously worked in Mumbai's film and music industry as a singer-songwriter and is a trained vocalist in the North Indian semi-classical music tradition under the guidance of Tulika Ghosh. She has been regularly performing at local music and arts venues across the city alongside her Indian Classical Fusion Ensemble Kafi &Chai.
She has previously worked on a feature film as a production assistant, artist manager to a roster of independent artists, music journalist based out of Bombay, and as an academic associate in the Communications department at IIM Ahmedabad. Most recently, she has begun interning at the Association of Asian Studies, Ann Arbor.
