Dr. Smith completed medical school at the Indiana University School of Medicine followed by Neurology residency and cerebrovascular neurology fellowship at the University of Cincinnati.  Upon completion of training Dr. Smith spent six years in private practice, which included a wide range of responsibilities prior to returning to the University of Cincinnati as clinical faculty.  During his career Dr. Smith has served on many committees and been involved in the development of numerous neurologic programs.  Dr. Smith has received several awards for both his clinical work and his work in education.

2014 -2020 General Neurologist with emphasis in Stroke, For four years, I ran a general neurology outpatient practice with special emphasis on stroke and neuroimmunology. During this time I lead our infusion center which was among the first in the area to infuse Lemtrada and Ocervus. I also enrolled patients with multiple sclerosis to clinical trials, provided neurotoxin therapy for spasticity and chronic migraine, and provided inpatient neurology consultation services (to date I have directly cared for patients at six area hospitals: The Christ Hospital, the Daniel Drake Center at Christ Hospital, The mercy Jewish Hospital, Mercy West Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, and Bethesda North Hospital). I have always devoted a significant amount of my practice time to education; providing a regular didactic lecture series for two local internal medicine residency programs as well as many other guest speaking roles. Most months I have at least one resident, medical student, and/or PA/NP student rotating with me. The landscape of neurologic and neurosurgical care in Cincinnati has recently shifted, which allowed me the opportunity to transition to an exclusively neurohospitalist role (primarily at The Jewish Hospital, Mercy Health) and assist with improving the quality of care in acute stroke, status epilepticus, and neuro-oncology., Riverhills Neuroscience,

Dr. Smith spent six years in private practice with a focus on inpatient neurologic disorders including cerebrovascular disease, status epilepticus, guillain-barre syndrome, neuro-oncology, and anoxic brain injury. His outpatient practice focused on cerebrovascular disease and Multiple sclerosis. Dr. Smith has been very active in the education of residents, medical students, and nurse practitioners.
