Professional Summary
Yingying Sun joined DAAP in 2023 as a faculty member of Mobility System Design and Industrial Design. Prior to joining DAAP, Yingying had over 20 years of teaching experience with a career that spanned Hangzhou, China, and North Carolina State University, USA. Throughout her teaching journey, She received several teaching/design contribution awards from the Ministry of Education and the General Commerce Association of China, and an Outstanding Teaching Award from the Department of GDID, College of Design at NC State. Her dedication to education has yielded students who have earned recognition in esteemed international design competitions, such as IDSA's International Design Excellence Awards, RedDot, and iF.
Yingying has also worked as a consultant, effectively collaborating with several Chinese companies to introduce innovative products, including kitchen utensils, furniture, and home appliances, to both Chinese and international markets. Yingying's most recent research project focused on Autonomous Vehicle design, and she has a deep passion for adaptability in design within this context. She believes that a well-designed solution should endure over time, maintaining its relevance, efficiency, and resilience, especially in times of uncertainty. It minimizes the risk of obsolescence and allows for seamless upgrades and enhancements to keep the system ahead of the curve.
