Personal Statement
The biggest lesson I learned during medical school is that patients are not simply puzzles to solve. Beyond a complex medical history is a person who has lived a life full of love, laughter, and pain. Every patient has their own goals and backgrounds, which are crucial pieces in understanding their story. Because of this, I have seen how important it is to approach each patient with compassion and an open mind. The personal aspect of medicine is what motivates me every day and there are few other specialties where this compassion can be cultivated like internal medicine. Because of the in-depth and holistic scope of practice, internal medicine allows for a patient to be seen as their full self. The skills I learned while rotating on internal medicine, of combining the social aspects of medicine with a patient’s health needs, were invaluable.

Why I Chose Cincinnati
As a Preliminary Year Intern, I knew that I wanted to make the most out of my year in internal medicine. I want to learn as much as I can about the basics of IM as well as work to build my skills as a clinician. When deciding on where to start my residency experience, I knew I wanted an environment that encouraged learning and teaching. For this reason, Cincinnati was the clear choice. Combined with the diverse learning environment and welcoming community, I knew that Cincinnati would help me challenge myself and grow into the best resident I could be.
