Professional Summary
Personal Statement
Addressing cultural barriers and building strong relationships with patients are important to me. When I led a focus group discussing health of Asian American community members, I was disheartened to learn that some people were hesitant to present to their providers with pain because they thought it was normal or insignificant. However, learning that some did not want analgesics even after admitting to significant pain was astonishing to me. This conversation highlighted the cultural disconnects that continue to permeate patient-physician relationships and the need to understand each patient's background and goals. I value meeting patients where they are and providing education and realistic expectations for their disease process. To me, caring for patients means empowering patients to be better advocates for themselves.
Why I Chose Cincinnati
As a medical student at UC, I greatly enjoyed my medicine rotations at UCMC with its warm and supportive environment. I was particularly drawn to the strong emphasis on education and teaching, which will give me an excellent foundation for my future career.
