De Peter Yi

De Peter Yi is an educator, designer, and licensed architect. He is an Assistant Professor in Architecture at the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP), where he is also a co-coordinator for the Simpson Center for Urban Futures. He is the founder of Rebuild Collective, and a co-founder and former co-lead of 1+1+ Architects. 

His work revolves around the relationship between the individual and collective in architecture. His current research uncovers how the confluence of private and public interests shapes the built environment, as well as the potential of distributed acts of building brought together by common goals. Recent work includes research, writing, and projects on the evolution of land banks, single family zoning, and supportive housing typologies. He is the author of Building Subjects, a book published by Standpunkte exploring the design potential of collectively-adapted housing in China. His work has been published in Log, Bracket, Cite Magazine, and The Architect’s Newspaper.  

He has previously taught at the University of Michigan, where he was the 2018-2019 Walter B. Sanders Research Fellow at Taubman College, and is a recipient of the Graham Foundation Publication Grant. He has previously practiced with Studio Gang Architects in Chicago, WW Architecture in Houston, and 1100 Architect in New York. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan, where he received the Wallenberg Prize, and a Master of Architecture degree from Rice University, where he received the AIA Henry Adams Certificate and the William D. Darden Thesis Award.
